One of the great things about Oakland is its more than 50 distinct neighborhoods. Montclair is one of our favorites.
"Situated in the Oakland Hills just east of Piedmont, Montclair is distinguished by its heavily forested neighborhoods. At the heart of Montclair lies a busy, pedestrian-friendly shopping district, Montclair Village, which is filled with shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. On Sundays, it hosts a weekly farmers' market filled with fresh produce."
- Wikipedia
This cache is a mini located in a place that helps pedestrians on the “Piedmont side” of Montclair make an easy (and safe) stroll to the Village. It is NOT located on the freeway. There is no need to go anywhere near traffic.
There is no room for a pen. Please bring your own.
While you’re in the neighborhood, check out the “Hansel and Gretel house” nearby at (N 37.49.796/W 122.12.816). Designed by famed-architect Julia Morgan (an Oakland High School and UC Berkeley graduate), this 1927 building originally served as the Hays School and later as an Oakland firehouse.
