Geocache Description:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Nostalgia Trip is a series of five caches not far from the A580, East Lancs Road. As well as a journey through South Lancashire it is also a journey into the past... more specifically the early 80's when I were a lad!

The five caches in the series are:
     Nice Cup of Tea
     Coal Not Dole
     ZX81
     The Adventure Game
When All This Were Just Fields
It is strongly advised to do them in this order. You will need coordinates from the first two caches to find the third and fourth, which in turn contain the coordinates for the final cache.

This is the final cache in the Nostalgia Trip and it brings us to a location not far from where I live - Highfield Moss, Lowton.

Highfield Moss is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) which is made up of woods, grassland and fen. It is currently considered to be in an unfavourable condition though from a local dog-walker's point of view it is a lovely place for a wander on a sunny day.

Things may change for Highfield Moss if the Parkside Strategic Rail Freight Interchange gets the planning go-ahead. This would create the largest rail freight terminal in the UK within a stone's throw of this quiet site. It is to be hoped that environmental considerations are taken into account should the development go ahead.

The cache site was originally at the top of a railway embankment overlooking the Liverpool-Manchester railway not far from where William Huskisson, President of the Board of Trade, was killed by Stephenson's Rocket in 1830. Unfortunately a large hole opened up near the cache early in 2009 so the container was, after some deliberation, moved to another site nearby.

The new location is amongst trees which form the boundary of the SSSI. It has been sited here so as not to disturb the fenland habitat and shouldn't take too much looking for once you have the coordinates.

The co-ordinates above are for the car park of the Travellers Rest Inn, which is a recommended start and finish point for combining this cache with a nice circular walk around Highfield Moss. If you are in a hurry and want a more direct approach, you can park at Lane Head and take a footpath directly to the cache. However, please note that the field directly to the east of the cache site is currently being used as an airstrip, so you should try to approach the cache using the paths through the Moss itself.

So what are the coordinates? Well, by completing the other caches in this series you should have found the values of C and D.
The coordinates for the cache are:

N 53°27.E
W 2° 34.F

where E=(C+253) (you will have found the value of C in Nostalgia Trip: ZX81)
and where F=(986-D) (you will have found the value of D in Nostalgia Trip: The Adventure Game)

The cache container is a small camouflaged tupperware box.

Please take care when crossing the railway line on the way to this cache, particularly if you have children or dogs with you. Please remember that Highfield Moss is an important fenland habitat and stick to the paths to avoid damaging the flora and fauna.

I hope you enjoy your hunt for this cache, and indeed all of the others in this series. That's all for my reminiscences. Why not share some of your own at the NW Caching Forum.

Happy Caching!
