Bartel Pegh is in de streek gekend als een ossendief: Volgens “De geschiedenis der vrijheid Arendonk” werd Bartel Pegh in 1705 op de Postelse weg te Arendonk aangehouden en ondervraagd over de herkomst van de ossen die Bartel bij zich had. “Ge zult wel horen, waar dat er markt is geweest” antwoordde Bartel.
Hij werd veroordeeld voor zijn diefstallen en op 11 juli 1705 in vertegenwoordiging van de gehele Schepenbank van Arendonk aan de galg opgehangen aan het galgenven, een gebied tussen Arendonk en Reusel.
Men zou later het gezegde: “Ge zult wel horen, waar dat er markt is geweest”, nog gebruiken in deze streek als zijnde: “Iets geheim houden”.

It was 1705, Bartel Pegh used to be known in the area as a cattle thief. According to the “De geschiedenis der vrijheid Arendonk” (translate as: “the History of Arendonk”) Bartel Pegh was taken in by the local law enforcement while he was guiding stolen oxen on the Postelse weg in Arendonk. The law enforcement asked him where he obtained all these oxen. “You will soon know where there was a marketplace in the neighborhood” Bartel answered!
Later on, the judge found Bartel Pegh guilty for stealing the oxen. During these ages, thieves were hanged and on July 11 1705, Bartels dead penalty was executed in the neighborhood of this cache, an area between Arendonk and Reusel.
