The Journey Museum takes you on an incredible trek through time, from the violent upheaval that formed the mystical Black Hills over 2.5 billion years ago to the continuing saga of the Western Frontier. See how the Lakota people lived here and how early settlers/homesteaders learned to live here.
There are exhibits on Geology, Paleontology, Archeology and Sioux Indian life and culture. See also the Minnilusa Pioneer Museum, the Duhamel Collection and the Grace French collection of art (through Dec. 31 2007).
The museum’s 7 acres of gardens display plants typcial of the Black Hills and western South Dakota. Also featured outdoors around the museum are non-native ornamental plants. Spend some time enjoying and discovering the gardens. The Western Dakota Native Garden and Arboretum is located behind the museum. There are plaques describing the Lewis and Clark Expedition's collection of native plants they found on their Journey.
