Hobbacott Incline Plane Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Graculus: This cache has been missing for some time and as the owner has not responded to recent logs I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Geocache Description:

For this walk there are two ways to approach the cache. The long and easy walk or the short and tough walk.
The co-ordinates are listed below. A place of interest at the top of the incline plane is one of the wells. We find it quite interesting to drop down a stone down it and wait for the splash. The co-ordinates for the well are also listed below.

This is part of the the old Bude Canal. To haul the boats from one level to another, an 'amphibious railway' system was used. Power was supplied by two gigantic buckets (9’ x 5’), holding 15 tons of water each, in wells 225’ deep. Plus an emergency 18 HP steam engine for use when the buckets, chains or winding machinery broke down.
