Geocache Description:

'186 Through Ashford' is located close to and in commemoration of the opening of the High Speed Rail Link From St Pancras, London to Europe.

The trains reach a top speed of 186 miles per hour after leaving London and have to slow down as they pass through or prepare to stop at Ashford International Rail Station.

Hence the name of the cache.

St Pancras Station was formally opened by HRH The Queen on 14th November 2007 with the Kent Based Station at Ebsfleet opening soon after on 19th November.

From within yards of the cache you can see the trains travelling at high speed. Usually 3 or 4 an hour.

The beauty of this cache is that it is very close to where the trains meet mid point between London and The Channel Tunnel. So if you see one train give it five minutes and there will always be a second one along! If there are no fast train the cache is even closer to the main line track.

A cache for real trainspotters!

Parking is available at N 51 10.801 E 000 50.031, but please use this considerately as it is access to a works yard.

During the day, stealth will be required to access the cache as it is close to the entrance to an industrial site and the entrance is private property.

Please sign our visitors book and swap a gift if you can. The cache is a large(ish) sealed bucket, which we have filled with toys and CDS. Please replace the cache carefully.
