The top of Mabbin Crag has been left free of trees and there is a way through to continue the ridge in either direction. Just keep following the small track made by previous adventurers. The top provides great views all round. The cache is south of the summit, just after descending through a pleasant grassy 'bowl'.
A couple of hundred metres further down is an old stone hut, which still has its roof; not sure what it was used for. If you're heading towards Castle Fell, at the hut take the right-hand path around the edge of the trees - the road less traveled. The better looking path which goes into the wood will require some bushwacking before it joins up with the right-hand path. However you go, you will appreciate waterproof boots as the path starts to resemble a stream/bog before it reaches the edge of the wood!
Cache title from the Genesis album, 'And Then There Were Three'.
