Located in Raymond, this 1,072-acre property consists of mixed
forest land and significant wetland habitat, representing one of
the largest pieces of open-space in this region of southern Maine.
The varied landscape includes ridges and hardwood slopes with
scenic views of the surrounding landscape. A century ago, settlers
relied on Morgan Meadow for haying and firewood. In the 1920s, a
New York resident purchased the large tract as a retreat and built
a cabin. In 1952, he sold the land and it was clear-cut over the
following decade. Since then it has been managed sustainably and is
now a high-quality forest.
In the early 1990’s Maine Department for Inland Fisheries
& Wildlife, started managing the property as a project under
the “Land for Maine’s
future”.
The previous owners Jack and Anne Spiegel have quite a history as
well. They are the founders of the Quoddy Moccasin company and
helped start the first Goodwill store in Portland. The Spiegels
have given other lots of land and monies to conservation groups in
Maine.
The cache is listed as day time only. You wont see any signs at
the trail head but the land for Maine's futures web site is very
clear. Go to this link for more

twenty feet off the trail.
Not
all the land in this area is owned by the State of Maine. Please
see the attach image of a map to show the trails and

We believe this cache will be winter friendly, but is will depend
on how much snow we get.
We are not sure if the parking area will be plowed. Use care if
parking on the side of the road, traffic moves fast through

between the start of October and the middle of
December.
