Concreek Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ngaambul: As there's been either no response from the cache owner, no cache to find or log to sign, or it's been a number of months since the last owner note. I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace/make available the cache sometime in the near future (next 30 days), just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the current guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it. Should you replace the cache after 30 days has passed please create a new cache listing so it can be reviewed as a new cache.

Geocache Description:

It ought to be a proper creek, but it looks more like a drain.

This unnamed creek is a tributary to Kedron Brook. At caches like "Mighty Ducks - Upper Kedron", "Little Black Duck", and "Park with a Boat" you can see how minor water courses like this have been landscaped into attractive features of their neighbourhoods. This is a much older development, and unfortunately, here they've taken a different approach. I do think it has a certain industrial aesthetic to it but it's hard not to think of it as an opportunity lost.

To the south the creek emerges from underground in four huge pipes. The branch off to the west has a series of baffles that look like they're intended to stop a tank invasion. Downstream, just the far side of Samford Rd, the concrete gives way to a natural stream. In recent years they've put a debris screen at Samford Rd (good) but before that we sometimes saw very forlorn looking turtles who had lost their way and headed upstream into this section.

Downfall Creek, upstream of "Hawk", is another example of a stream being given this treatment.
