I love an easy download-and-drive; this Puzzled Husker series of
10 caches in Omaha area parks doesn't include any. There's logic
problems, cryptograms, trivia quizzes, hidden-word puzzles,
anagrams, math problems, Caesar shift ciphers and web research
quests. Each has Nebraska history or trivia, or at least clues
about cache locations; I've revisited some parks that have been
cacheless for a while. If you hate this sort of thing,
collaboration might be in order. Puzzles vary in difficulty, but
none of them are really tough, especially in this age of Google,
online maps and Wikipedia (which, in these particular instances, is
pretty reliable).
The listed cache coords are very rough map grabs; don't
necessarily count on them for closest parking, or even for being
that close to the cache.
Just for fun, guess the answers ahead of time, or ask someone
else to guess. The census information can all be found on the same
U.S. Government web page.
According to the 2000 Census, label the following statements
true or false:
1.In Nebraska, women outnumber men.
2.It takes longer for the average Nebraskan to get to work than the
national average.
3.The percentage of foreign-born Nebraskans is less than half the
percentage of foreign-born Americans.
4.The average number of people per household in Nebraska is less
than the national average.
5.The median age of a Nebraskan is exactly the same as the national
median.
6.The percentage of Nebraskans (25 years or older) who have
graduated high school or higher is less than the national
average.
7.The percentage of Nebraskans (25 years or older) who have a
bachelor's degree or higher is less than the national average.
8.The percentage of civilian veterans (military veterans no longer
on active duty, 25 years or older) in Nebraska is higher than the
national average.
9.There's a higher percentage of Nebraska families below poverty
level than the national percentage.
10.Over twice as high a percentage of Americans speak a language
other than English at home than in Nebraska.
Next, write your Ts and Fs in order, then convert to binary
(T=1, F=0), then convert to decimal to create a 3-digit key number
called A.
