Geocache Description:

This cache was placed as an excuse to spend quality time with Teddy63 and to provide a full days adventure to those who opt to follow.
This is not meant to be a quick cache. Please do not complain if you take 4 or more hours to complete it.

Back in September of 2005, we were contacted by a GeoCacher teddy63, who was having some problems finding one of our caches. GCQ450 Event cache cache and dash to be exact.

Well it turns out the fellow is from Germany and he is working for a company in Tucson for a few weeks. What more could we do then to get with him and see how we can assist? He was very happy to have us help translate cache pages and offer guidance, so when he was invited to come to the house he jumped at the chance.

We talked a good while about Geocaching and what he would like to do while in Arizona on his free time and it was decided that we should meet up again to take the Jeep out for a spin and get a few hikes together, so we met up and headed down to Woodcutter's playgrounds in the Empire Mountains around Las Cienegas area. Then we headed across the road and continued to enjoy ourselves by heading for a cache placed by another dear friend who we all know as HornyToad. (The Tunnel at Tunnel Spring).

When the day came to a close Teddy63 and I had enjoyed his visit, but the time for him to go home was drawing near, so we made plans to meet up a few more times including a trip downtown to see the night life Tucson has to offer. You can get a good laugh or two from our antics if you really want to by simply looking at his logs from that night..

Elmosmelmo, ShadowAce, Teddy63

We would next get to see Teddy63 in March of 2006 when he returned to Tucson for another business trip. Teddy63 joined us for Tucson's first ever CITO event called Alamo Remembered - CITO and we did more time hiking then jeeping this trip. Teddy63 and our family toured the area of Cochise Stronghold using Team Bugmann's GCRY5T Cochise Trail as a guide. Though once more our hearts were heavy as we bid farewell to our dear friend.

Wrenbo and Drayman in Cochise Stronghold

We would see him again before long though as it turned out he was coming back. It is now August 2006 and this time Teddy63 brought with him his lady and our new friend, Ulli. So how can we make this trip special? Aha we declared, we would take them up north and show them the adventures of Salt River Tubing and while here we had a chance to hunt for GCPE2Q Salt River Cache.

Ulli and Teddy63 enroute to Salt River

November 2007 rolls around and we find ourselves once more blessed with the company of our friend, so we got the whole gang together to welcome him back to his home away from home. Tucson, AZ where you can experience any type of terrain or weather if your willing to drive, hike or crawl far enough. Teddy63 has been a part of our family for a couple of years now and we have hiked the desert and jeeped the back roads. We have played in the water as well as the snow. We have climbed to high elevations but also gone deep underground (Copper Queen Mine Tours in Bisbee). The kinder, Drayman and Wrenbo, have come to know him as family and friend but once more we find ourselves torn between enjoying his company and having to say goodbye.

Teddy63 and ShadowAce enjoying the weather

What can we do to enjoy one last adventure before he departs on the giant bird in the sky? Well, I am glad you asked that question because Teddy63 and I believe, with the help of the family, we have created a bit of an adventure for you and yours as well. We tried to create a cache that is along the lines of what he would place if he were back home in Germany. A bit of something for everyone. This geocache will take you for hikes and drives. It has micro elements as well as an ammo can for a container. Virtual information will need to be located and pictures will need to be uploaded to your logs .... Pictures ARE REQUIRED!!!!

Pictures are no longer a requirement due to the changes of Groundspeaks policies in April 2009

...Now on with the fun...

At the posted coordinates;
We parked at this area and left the jeep here as the roads are gated this time of year. Even if the road was open, we recommend you walk from this point through the rest of the stages as it will provide lovely views and some well deserved exercise. We made this hike with the temps at 32 degrees and the children did just fine. So here you will be searching for a micro/nano (Yep we have learned that cachers love Nano containers). Not to worry this is the only object this small to search for. Inside of this Nano container you will find the coordinates for Stage 2.

Please ignore the posted coordinates now as a new cache was listed too close to this stage and since they are not willing to move it in accordance with the guidelines I am adjusting MY cache to ensure the guidelines are followed.
Proceed to stage TWO at N 32° 27.120 W 110° 47.008

At the coordinates of stage 2 you will be looking for a label/sign. To know which label, you will see it while on the ground. No climbing upon or on the objects is required. The number you need from this label is on the white line and the right hand side of this line has an 'F'. You need to get the three numbers on the LEFT side of the white line. This number will be used to gain the Final coordinates as well as to find the next stage. This is a three digit number and the CENTER NUMBER shall now and forever be called G.

Stage Three is (N 32 27.205 -(minus)- The three Numbers in the white bar) and (W 110 48.046 -(minus)- The three numbers in the white bar). Checksum of all numbers added together is 43. example N 32 33.333 W 110 52.222 would be a checksum of 35.
Here you need to look for a sign and write down the Numbers that are on the sign. This Number (it is the same number twice) will hencefourth be known as P. Please remember this number by writing it down or having the children keep safe.

Stage Four will be located by projecting your waypoint of stage three to a Forward Azimuth of 196.359° True North for a distance of 821.553 feet.
At this location you will search for a green box and find a number which begins with MT***
Make a note of the last item in that and this item will become legend in history as being the one and only I. Make sure to keep this information safe as 'I' is your friend.

To reach Stage Five you once more need to project from the numbers you used for Stage Four.
Set yourself a forward Asimuth of 210.871° True North and a distance of 861.888 feet. When you have the projection completed you will find yourself where you need to be.
We know sometimes numbers round off when they need not so we will give you a checksum for Stage Five -Your North should = 20 and your West should = 28- if this is true in your case then you will be looking at a metal box which has raised letters on the front _15 total letters_.
You need to take these numbers and convert them to the Alphanumeric value (A=1 B=2 C=3) and then add them all together. The Sum of these 15 letters converted to numeric value will be used later, of this I am fairly sure. Why? Because the FIRST Number will be used as 'F'

Stage Six - By now you are fairly decent at projections, yes? Well we will make the next one a bit easier then that but maybe not so much? We want you to head over to a place known as Lemmon Rock Lookout Tower. The views from here are amazing but you might have to figure out where it is from where you are? Oh, ok.. We will tell you where you need to go.
At N32 26.102 W110 47.362 you will have climbed the rock stairs to the tower and will be able to admire the views and read about the history of the area.
It is at this location that we would very much enjoy seeing a picture of yourself. -

At these coordinates you will also find an informative sign about the Lemmon Rock Lookout tower. Please take a moment and read this sign. In the bottom right you will see an image of a the FireFinder...
Build your next stage coordinates by using this image: (remember A=1 B=2 C=3 ect.)
N 32 (Sighting Hair)(Leveling Screw).(Vernier)(Leveling Screw) W 110 (Rotating Sight)(Delineating line).(Rotating Sight)(Sighting Hair)(Azimuth Graduations) - Checksum will be 47 when all is added together.
Before you leave, convert the letter of the (Front sight) to a number and store this as 'A'

Stage Seven - Located using the coordinates created above will bring you to yet another sign? Ah but it has interest and value as well as explains how to find more information needed to locate the final cache. Upon this sign is a four digit number. Assign the values to this number like this:
First digit becomes B
Second digit becomes K
Third digit becomes D
Fourth digit becomes N
Now wasn't that easy enough?

Stage Eight can and will be located by heading 391.474 feet at a azimuth of 7.548° true north from the sign used in Stage Seven. Upon arrival you will be looking for a green box, but you might find two of them nearby? Oh help me .. How shall I know what to use? It is not as hard you might fear because if you add the last two digits you will find a total of 15 and this indicates you are at the correct area. Now take these two numbers that you have found and if you added a one to the Second number you would now know the value of 'Z'.

Off we head now for Stage number Nine. We search high and low and look for things to find. Lets do something a bit of a twist and show where you are instead of where you came from?
If you were standing at Stage Nine and wanting to head to Stage Eight, you would find yourself walking 1002.595 feet at an Azimuth of 191.539° True North.
Now before you get to confused and step into empty air, make sure the numbers for Stage Nine give you a checksum of 24 for Lat. and 29 for Long.
When you arrive at Stage Nine look for the number of someone who could be contacted if need were to arrive. They would respond if you dialed (ABC) DEF-KLMN so take the Number that represents L by using this formula and keep that safe with you.

We have completed this part of our journey and now await you back at the parking lot of the Iron Door. Please rememeber while you are now hating us, that we did this in freezing temps with children aged of 7 years and 11 years. We did this on the ice and in the snow but we kept our hearts warm with happiness and hope you are doing the same. When you arrive at the car we have a little drive, we just had to toss in another mix...

No riddle or ryme to find Stage Ten, drive on by when your ready again. The coordinates you need are N32 25.185 W110 44.402. Take a bit of time to stretch and enjoy your legs. Keep your spirits high and enjoy your afternoon with the friends and family. At these coordinates you will locate a small circular disk that is stamped US Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Public Roads and just above the word public is a three digit number. Take the Second Digit and use it as 'U'.

Final Stage: Completion is almost at hand, but here is where the fun begins... We brought Drayman (11) with us but Wrenbo (7) remained with mommie for this part as it might be a tad worse then all the other hiking in the form of danger or fright.
You are now heading to :::::: ------- :::::: N32 FK.IPZ W110 LD.UGA :::::: ------- ::::::
This adventure took us around six hours to complete, house to house, your times may vary.

As a First Finder Prize, we left enough to pay for your permit for the day. We look forward to the stories and hope you all have a wonderful adventure on this trip.
bis wir uns wieder treffen
