The town of Bellevue, TX built a new school in 1921 and the old school was demolished. The bell from the old school was tossed out with the trash but rescued by several students. They put the old bell in the basement of the new school where it remained hidden for over 60 years. All but one of the original group of students who saved the bell had passed away. The remaining student had returned to the school through the years as a teacher, principal and superintendent but never mentioned the hidden bell. He finally thought he should tell someone that the bell was still around. The bell was recovered, cleaned and placed in a spot of honor in front of Bellevue ISD where it remains today.
Today Bellevue, TX is a town of 396 in a mostly agricultural area. Bellevue ISD is home to 184 students from K-12.
Bring a pen to log your visit. This cache is small and only has room for a log.
Thanks for visiting Bellevue.
