Rail's End Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

gbmcache: After almost a ten year run with 245 Finds I am laying the cache to rest. I visited the site today and saw that the host building has been demolished. Additionally the story about the end of the rail line no longer relevant given the long ago demise of the trolley line.

Geocache Description:

Located at the Atherton Mill Shopping Center is the original barn for the Charlotte vintage trolley and where one until recently could come to take the trolley to ride into downtown Charlotte and back. The barn housed a museum devoted to Charlotte's trolley history. Sitting on the patio with friends sipping tea and watching the trolley load and depart, and then return with its load of riders, was a nice way to spend a couple of hours on a mild Saturday afternoon. Alas, the trolley service has been discontinued and the museum has been moved to 1507 Camden Road. The barn now is the location of, on certain days of the week, a farmer's market. To learn more about the trolley and the attempts to resurrect service: (visit link)

Until June, 2009, after finding the cache you could have taken the time to have a cup of tea or other refreshment at TEA ReX and relax before going onto your next cache. (visit link) If you saw Wayne or Chris around you could have let them know of your discovery and perhaps had a conversation about tea, or Wayne's varied history. Alas, the only true tea house in Charlotte is now closed. For those who are lovers of good and/or exotic teas this was the place to go. Maybe some future discerning entrepreneur will open a tea house somewhere in Charlotte, but he will have a difficult time meeting the standards that TEAReX set for quality teas.

Did you ever wonder what happened to the cop on Laverne & Shirley? ... Me neither. Nevertheless, for a real treat follow this link to learn about Wayne, a very interesting fellow: (visit link)

So, with that bit of history the old TEAReX location has been taken over by another fine place to visit and spend some relaxing time, a place worthy of TEAReX's legacy. It is Luna's Living Kitchen, a cafe specializing in vegan quisine. (visit link) If you love healthy and delicious dining you will not want to miss visiting after finding the cache and signing the log. Introduce yourself to Randy, Juli, Andy, or Kolchi and let them know what led you there.

Now, that paragraph being left without edit, this one is to inform you that another change has been made. Luna's Living Kitchen has moved across the parking lot. The site is now empty awaiting a tenant, but the cache remains at its original location.

To find the cache there is no need to go inside the fenced or chained area, or inside the barn. I have found that the large metal barn plays havoc with GPS accuracy. Nevertheless, you should not find it too difficult to discover the cache. After all, you arrived knowing its name.

Congratulations to novastars as the FTF 1-4-08
