Fairy Stone's Best Kept Secrets Multi-Cache
offline.cacher: The general rule reviewers use to archive a cache is that the cache owner has been notified (through a log entry) by the reviewer and that no response has been forthcoming. This is the case with this cache. As a result it has been archived.
If the owner would like to discuss this issue, please contact me through my geocaching.com profile. Include the GC code for the cache.
Thanks

If you are looking for a long hike through some of the most beautiful spots in Patrick County, Virginia, then this is the multi-cache for you! In this three part multi-cache you will get to explore the Little Mountain Falls trail system at Fairy Stone State Park. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 1930s, Fairy Stone was the largest of the six original Virginia State Parks. Today it is still one of the largest parks in the system at 4,537 acres.
The length of this multi-cache makes it somewhat challenging. To find all the boxes, a hike of about five miles will be necessary. The terrain is steep and often uneven with several creek crossings.
Follow the directions on the Virginia State Parks website to reach Fairy Stone State Park. Pay the parking fee ($3 weekdays, $4 weekend) at the office or yellow pipe safe. Bear left and continue to the trail parking lot on the left. To reach the first box there are two trail options. You can follow the Little Mountain Falls trail (orange blaze) all the way to the coordinates, or take the Beach trail (white blaze) to the campground and follow the Mountain View trail (old paved road) which parallels the Little Mountain Falls trail up to a spot just before the coordinates.
I selected three of my favorite “hidden” spots in the park to hide the three parts of this multi-cache. The Little Mountain Falls trail system is a great hike, passing through multiple environmental types at a variety of elevations. Watch carefully and you will notice the vegetation changing as you follow the trail.
The first and second caches are clear shoe box type plastic containers. The third cache is shrouded in mystery, as it was not purchased at the store but constructed here in the park. Its design and materials are known only to the elite few who have completed the entire multi-cache.
After finding the first cache, the coordinates and directions to the second can be found on the back of the laminated card inside the box. The same procedure will get you from the second to the third box. Don’t forget to bring multiple items to trade, as there are three total boxes. The original contents get better the further along you get. You may also want to bring a camera, water, lunch, rain gear, etc.
Original contents of the first box are: log book and pencil, stickers, child I.D. kits, some park brochures, VA state map, mini frisbees, ruler, fishing bobber, a basket making kit, letter opener, key chain, whistle and trash bag. The second and third boxes original contents are a secret, but as an incentive to early hunters, there is a swim pass good for 10 visits to the Fairy Stone Beach in the final box.
Happy Cache Hunting!
