The cache is located at Oaky Creek west of Atherton. It is accessible by 4 wheel drive vehicle, motor bike, and conventional car with reasonable clearance and a reasonably fit geocacher. From the park there is a hike of about half a kilometre down into a steep sided valley so the return would be difficult for the unfit.
The cache is a glass jar with clip-down lid. Besides the usual swap trinkets it has a First Find Trophy.
Travel south west from Atherton towards Herberton. On the outskirts of Atherton take the Rifle Range road and continue past the rifle range. If a red flag is up as you approach the rifle range, stop. If shooting is going on, it should be manned and you should take the advice of the official. It may mean abandoning the expedition for that day. In most cases the official will radio through and he will be told when it is safe for you to proceed. If the flag station is not manned, then listen. If there is no sounds of gunfire, drive up to the buildings and ask there. If you hear the sound of shots, it would be better not to proceed until there is a lull. (The only danger is that a rifle might be accidently fired towards the road - not at all likely, but possible.) On return you may be faced with a red flag at the west end of the rifle range (gate). The same conditions apply. If flag is not manned, proceed with caution.
With that hurdle over, continue on the State Forest road. You will pass through a gate. Make sure you shut it after you. A conventional two wheel drive car with reasonable clearance can continue for some way if the road is dry. There is a good place to park at
S 17° 16.217’ E 145° 25.578’ Do not attempt to take a conventional car past this point, and I would leave my 4 wheel drive vehicle here also. If you don’t mind getting your vehicle scratched with vegetation, the track is dry, and you are an experienced 4 wheel driver, you can continue to the cache site. The road forks here. Take the right hand road along the ridge for a little way before veering down into the valley.
While you are there explore the valley and the creek. You may even have a cool-off in the little pool. Note the large tadpoles. They are a special feature of this area. If you cross the creek and follow down the top of the far bank (there is a track of sorts but stout boots and leg protection are advisable), you will come to the top of the falls. Extreme caution is necessary and it is not really a place to take kids.
