Geocache Description:

This is yet another cache located in the Barboursville Community Park. While not a quick “park & grab” cache, the location of this one is not as rigorous as some others located in the park. It requires only a non-strenuous walk of about 1/3 mile from the lake-side parking area along a graveled walking path and maintained dirt road that provides vistas of the scenic park lake, a river view and wooded hillsides. Beware that part of the journey may be quite muddy following rainy spells.

This cache was inspired by my wife and some of her colleagues—educators at a local Middle School.  As the name implies, it is intended to be a tribute to the teaching profession and to the teachers and professors who have helped make us what we are.  It is part traditional cache and part “activity” cache.  The ammo-can cache contains the normal cache items—log book, initial trade items, all of which have a teacher theme that will be enjoyed by teachers, and two additional activity logs.

The two additional activity log books each invite the finder to record information about teachers.  The first activity log book—titled “I’m A Teacher”—provides a means for those in the teaching profession to record information about what they teach, where and for how long.  The second activity log book—titled “My Favorite Teacher”—provides the means for all finders of the cache to record information about their favorite teacher or professor: the teacher’s name, school name and location, subject and year.  These activities are strictly voluntary—they are just a means for people to share information about their profession and/or teachers they feel had a positive and lasting impact on their lives.  If personal identity is an issue, nameless or “ANON” entries are quite O.K. too.  So, take a moment at the cache site, make a log entry or two and enjoy the scenery and wildlife of this pleasant community park.

It is suggested that cache visitors limit their trade items to things that would be attractive to teachers and of worthwhile value.  Cache finders may dedicate deposited items in the name of a favorite teacher and mention the dedication in their cache-find log entry on Geocaching.com.  View the photo gallery for a graphic of the initial cache contents.
