Ouabache is difficult to spell,
but easy to pronounce. Simply say 'Wabash'...just like the river
that forms the southwest boundary for the park. This is the French
spelling of an Indian word, so don't be surprised to hear some
folks call it o-ba-chee.
Ouabache State Park has a large
lake, great for fishing, boating and swimming, if the weather
allows. The park has canoes, rowboats, and paddleboats for rent,
along with bicycles that can be used on the 2 ¾ mile dedicated bike
trail, or on the roads around the park.
There are 77 electric camping
sites and 47 non-electric camping sites, so if you are planning on
camping for the weekend please make your reservations as soon as
possible. Reservations can be made on-line or by telephone. For
reservations call 1-866-6campIN or go to www.camp.IN.gov
Please make a note in the log if
you plan on attending so that we can plan accordingly. The shelter
area has grills, and we will supply the charcoal. Please bring a
dish to share as well as your own main course and beverages. We
will be having a raffle, and will have door prize drawings before
we leave. If each team brings an item for the drawing it will add
to the fun. As is customary, after the picnic, you will be able to
log this as an event. If you have FRS or GMRS radios bring them
along. We will be broadcasting on channel 7, subcode 7.
