4.23. Unarchiving a Geocache

The archiving of a geocache is intended to be a permanent status. That is why only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ staff have the capability to unarchive it. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if it meets the current Geocache Listing Guidelines.

If a geocache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance it will not be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

Freedom for Jon Blake

The initial waypoint is for a quirky little street in Port Adelaide. It would once have been a very busy area serving as store sheds for goods to travel by sea.

I often enjoy driving down the street to/from work, as the buildings and connecting bridges feel like they are imposing upon you (but I’ll understand if its just dirty old buildings for you).

The street was used in the 1982 movie Freedom which featured Jon Blake (born 1958). Jon Blake played Ron who ends up stealing a Silver Porsche and driving the highways to fulfill his dreams. On his joy ride he races a V8 (filmed around Tailem Bend from memory) and stops at a roadside cafe and meets Sally, who is on her way to retrieve her baby from a pair of foster parents. The two set off together, and nothing goes their way - Sally fails in her mission, Ron runs down a policeman and then has to get rid of Sally and devise some way to escape the law who are now after him in force. I vaguely recall him disposing of the Porsche by sending it through a crash barrier and into the ocean - filmed somewhere around the roads near Lady Bay.

The movie was directed by Scott Hicks.

Tragically Jon Blake suffered severe brain and body injuries in December 1986 from a car crash whilst returning from Port Augusta after the filming for The Lighthorsemen had finished only hours earlier. He has since been cared for by his mother (until her death in May 2007) and now his son, along with a team of Nurses.

I always enjoyed his movies when I was younger, and he was touted as the next Mel Gibson until the accident intervened.

At the initial waypoint you will find a fridge magnet which has written on it the location of the cache. Take care in the street as there are no footpaths, so it is probably best to leave any kids in the car. The cache location has little traffic, and the cache is a small sistema container attached to its surrounds.

Please return the waypoint and the cache to the same spots. You may have to follow your instincts too, as I've never had great sat lock in the two spots. Feel free to add photos of the street and initial waypoint.

If you remember any Jon Blake movies, please recount them in your log – and he is not related to Jon Blake on 5AA.

Enjoy

P.S I'd been planning this cache well before the tragic demise of Heath Ledger. Quite eerie.
