Geocache Description:

An easy find near the Canning River, between the river and a Memorial Grove.

Due to the temporary nature of pens and pencils in my geocaches
BRING YOUR OWN WRITING IMPLEMENT!!!

The cache was relocated to a nicer spot on 3 Jan 2008, but not much changed.

After hiding WanderingAus 35 - Riverside Parklands #6 I continued to follow the Canning River downstream, looking for another good hiding spot. Regrettably the riverside was marred by a profusion of blackberry, followed by a large area burnt out in a recent bushfire, followed by an area of extremely long dry grass which would certainly be home to tiger snakes and the like. I thought it prudent not to place a cache in any of these areas.

As the trail neared Nicholson Road I discovered the park and surrounding areas to be over-run by muggles, again not conducive to a safe hide, so I thought "why not see what's further downstream?"

I was dismayed to discover that the trail does not continue downstream from Nicholson Road, so I will have to do further exploration at a later date. I chose to cross the river and attempt to find a trail back to Maddington on the other side.

Again I was disappointed, as the only section of the river accessable on that side between Cannington and Maddington is that portion immediately up and downstream of Red Dot Special by Bear_Left .

After exploring downstream past Red Dot Special and finding a dead end (actually it just headed back towards "the nearest parking area"), I doubled back and proceeded upstream, passing under the Roe Highway bridges and finding a spot for this cache. From there I continued upstream, passing through an open gate and into the Railway Reserve, where I was able to continue under the railway bridge, but from there the bike was really bush bashing, and in the end I had to escape into Rimmer Lane by ducking the bike under the top rail of the fence beside the locked gate. I DO NOT recommend this route, I suggest entering and leaving by the route used for Red Dot Special.

Update 14 Jan 11:
With the demise of Red Dot Special a nicer area of the riverside has been opened up, so I decided to upgrade this cache to a regular and move it downstream a short distance.

Update 22 Oct 21:
The cache is a drab camo'd 2 litre screw-top plastic container, with a log, a pen, 2 pencils, a sharpener, Finders Cards, and a few swaps.

When trading items please consider trading up or trading even and leaving items that you would want to find, and please don't take the pen, pencil or sharpener. If you can't trade up or trade even I don't mind seeing TNLNSL in the log.

Trackables (geocoins and travel bugs) are not tradeable items. Please feel free to take them without making a trade, but please leave a note in the logbook and your online log, and do log them online.
