Geocache Description:

OAKS AMUSEMENT PARK
"Portland's Coney Island on the Willamette"

Click 'users web page' link above for a really cool historical website with amazing old photos of Oaks Amusement Park - to see what it looked like back in the day.

The grounds here are open day and night and there's no need to go inside any buildings or pay for anything (admission is free) for the purposes of this cache.

Go to the initial coordinates and look for 2 huge toy soldiers. Very near them is a 4 digit number, of significance, prominently displayed. What is it?

Now go to the 2nd waypoint and look for a big group of animals who run around in circles. In the middle of their circle there is a 4 digit number, of significance, prominently displayed. What is it? (By the way, while you're at this waypoint, look up in the rafters to find the owls' nest. If you can't spot it, ask the carny for help - they are friendly. Cute little barn owls living up there for a long time.)

Add the soldiers' number to the decimal minutes of the following dummy coordinate to get the true NORTH coordinate of the hide location (and ignore decimal point for the purposes of the math):
N 45 26.258

Add the animals' number to the decimal minutes of the following dummy coordinate to get the true WEST coordinate of the hide location (and ignore decimal point for the purposes of the math):
W 122 37.961

The cache container is a clear plastic jar about 7" tall. It contains a logsheet and pen. For first-to-find I put in a real treasure this time: a like-new Olympus micro-cassette recorder with a box of blank cassettes to go with it. Also are some YAG laser crystals, for 2nd/3rd/4th-to-finds.

Oaks is a great place to just have a picnic and enjoy the view of the river and downtown. I loved it when I was a kid.

Enjoy!
