This cache is to commemorate the island legend of “Coon Man.”Coon Man came to life many years ago on the island of South Bass in Lake Erie. As legend has it, he lives in the woods on the island and he only comes out during the evening hours. He is a scary looking creature: half man, half raccoon. As parents tell the story, Coon Man’s chief responsibility is to keep the island children away from the many caves on the island.
This cache is located down one of the many paths that Coon Man is said to watch over. This walking path (no golf carts allowed!) is located in Cooper’s Woods, one of the little known public areas on the island.Bring your own writing utensil. The trail begins near the Mother of Sorrows Church at the edge of the woods near the road.
As you walk this secluded trail, if you should find any trash, please carry it out with you. Thanks for your assistance!
Update: A large tree has fallen across the path. You will need to climb over the tree or walk around it.
