Geocache Description:

A new place to discover and appropiate for the whole family.

The town of Penfield recently purchased 82 acres of land now known as "Sherwoods Property".

The land features two streams, mature woodlands, meadows and is home to a variety of wildlife.

The land was owned by the Sherwoods, a couple committed to wildlife and the environmnet. In 1992, the Sherwoods entered into an Open Space easement with the Town of Penfield to ensure their land would be used for the enjoyment of nature. The easement expired in 2002 and the Sherwoods's worked with the Town to make the preservation of this natural area a permanent committment.

Once public parking is installed, visitors will be able to enjoy activities like cross-country skiing, hiking, biking, bird watching and picnics.

For now the town is sharing the Penfield Fire Station #3 driveway, which is just east of Harris Road off Route 441 to access the park.

Although there are no marked trails,I followed a path and getting to the cache area involved minimal bushwhacking.

The cache is a 50 cal. ammo box stuffed full of swag for all ages.

I didn't make this difficult as I wanted it to be enjoyable for all ages and a new place to explore.

There is a "gift" for the FTF.

Congratulations to Wandering Buck and Chilihead for the shared FTF!
