Geocache Description:

Access from Main and 9th or Main and 10th Sts. in Wellsville OH. Go toward the Ohio River.

Cache, which when placed contained, log book, small sewing kit, two golf balls, and a Flashlight Keychain w/ battery is on the grounds of the Wellsville River Museum. Building was built in 1870 and used by Dr. John Hammond for his Medical Practice to the Railroad Industry and town residents. He and his family also occupied it as their residence. Today the Museum is operated by the Wellsville Historical Society, with each of 11 rooms exhibiting different elements of Wellsville history, such as Pottery, Riverboats, Railroad and Indian artifacts. It is open to the public from the first Sunday in June to the last Sunday in August, from 1PM to 5PM. Special tours can be arranged for groups of ten or more at any time. The Pennsylvania Railroad was a large force in Wellsville in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries, having a roundhouse and Repair yard located at the southern end of town. There is currently a restored Pennsy R.R. Caboose on the grounds. The railroad lines still run along the River serving points South and West. Riverside Avenue does not run in front of the Century Homes from 9th St. to 11th St. This was due to the Railroad Engineers wanting to walk out of their home and go directly to a Train waiting on the tracks without having to worry about cars hitting them. After finding this cache, a pleasant stroll can be taken up in front of the Homes, many of which were built in the 1830s and had been used for the "Underground Railroad". Enjoy the serenity of the River and the landscapes of the homes.
