Several months ago I hiked the Tramonto trail starting at the community park and followed the trail along the base of the mountain until I reached the Carefree Highway. After the trail faded out I hiked up each of the small summits along the highway and then headed up to the water tank. From there I started the ascent up the South side of the mountain range. I continued hiking over each of the peaks making a nice 4 mile loop hike.
This cache has been placed at the highest peak along this route. It is not necessary to hike the entire ridge to retreive the cache. An alternate approach is to hike the trail to the saddle (see the Tramonto Puzzle Cache for trail waypoints) then proceed up to the top of the peak. Of course there is always the option of going straight up!
Getting to the top of this peak may be a bit of a challenge depending upon the route you choose. Some routes are definately easier than others (it is possible to get to the top without rock climbing or excessive sliding on loose gravel).
Recommend good boots and a walking stick or trekking poles.
Once you reach the top you will be treated to a view of the entire North Valley including Anthem, Desert Hills and North Phoenix.
This is a desert cache so watch out for the critters and prickly things and bring plenty of water.
