The cache is located near the Coomalie Creek roadside stop, a popular rest stop for travellers.
The Coomalie Creek area has an abundance of history, particularly in relation to WW2. The nearby Coomalie Creek Airfield which is now located on private property was a base for several RAAF squadrons during WW2. The Squadron Chapel near the airfield has been rebuilt and the airfield is still used by the property owner.
During WW2 there was a reported 26 military aircraft crashes in the Coomalie Creek are, with the Coomalie Creek Airfield enduring 6 Japanese aircraft raids from 1942 to 1943.
Fortunately the cache location is now much more subdued and has become a popular rest spot, particularly during peak tourist season.
