Welcome to Opp, Alabama.
When this cache was first hidden, you were about to enter or leave Opp City Limits depending on the approach. “The City of Opportunity.” “Opp-ortunity begins with Opp.” Slogans used by the city. The home of the Rattlesnake Rodeo held each spring. http://rattlesnakerodeo.com/ It is also on the route many people take to the Gulf Coast beaches.
Named for Henry Opp, an Andalusia attorney of German descent. Mr. Opp was an attorney who represented the L&N Railroad against the Central of Georgia Railroad when they were trying to stop L&N from entering Covington County. Because of Mr. Opp’s success in the matter, the town was further developed surrounding the “turning around” place for the trains. L&N Railroad suggested the town be named for Mr. Opp and it was.
