The cache, a small click and lock box, is hidden in the woodland behind the beach at Turnaware Bar.
It is approachable by land or by boat.
Turnaware Bar was used as an embarkation point for the D-Day landings. The shingle beaches were covered with concrete honey-comb mattresses parts of which can still be found today.
If you approach from the car parking site suggested you will pass the commemorative stone for the D-Day landings. (Although the sign says 'Private Road' it does lead to a Free National Trust car park.)
As you walk down the path to the beach it is worth stopping a while to admire the view out over the estuary towards Falmouth and Mylor.
Make your way down onto the beach. Trelissick House is across the river ahead of you.
The green marker buoy is a deep water channel marker. It is at the end of the bar. On an extremely low tide it is possible to walk out over the oysters along the bar. Be warned this is only possible for a short time and the tide comes in very quickly. Be careful not to get cut off!
To get to the cache walk up the estuary towards the King Harry Ferry. Now it’s all up to you and your skills!
Good luck!
If you are into researching things for a visit worth checking out:
~Trelissick Gardens owned by the National Trust and situated at the head of the Fal Estuary. It commands panoramic views over the area with extensive walks.
~The King Harry Ferry – a picturesque crossing saving time getting from Truro / Falmouth and the Roseland Peninsula
~The Smugglers Cottage at Tolverne was also closely involved with the D-Day landings. It has lots of memorabilia from the D-Day landings and does a good cream tea, morning coffee, pasty suppers. The opening times vary so worth looking at this first!
