Geocache Description:

A walk through woodland adjacent to the town of Alton in Hampshire

Limited car parking can be found off the A339 at N51.08.671 W000.59.511. Alternate parking in Whitedown Lane opposite entrance to woods at N51.08.692 W000.59.456.

As you approach the entrance to the path signs point to a Public Bridleway to the right. Take the un-signposted path ahead up a slight incline into the woodland and after 50 metres (approx) you will arrive at a gate with a badge welcoming walkers.

To the left of the gate is a stile that leads to a path that you may take along the southern edge of the woodland or alternatively take the main route straight ahead. In the winter the trail is particularly muddy in places and wellies or walking boots are recommended!!

Halfway along the route to the cache look to the south and you will see an old water tower, now disused, but quite eerie between the trees. Also to the south you may see or hear steam locomotives from the Watercress Line that runs between Alton and New Arlesford. Above your head look out for gliders and light aircraft flying from the nearby Lasham airfield.

The cache itself is near to a clearing in the woodland and GPS reception should be relatively good.
