Geocache Description:

The Greenside Mine in Glenridding produced lead from the late 1600s until it was closed in 1962. The mine was owned by Glenridding Mining Company established in 1825 and was the first to introduce and use many innovative technologies. They were for example the first to install electric winding gear and generate their own hydro-electricity.

Blea Cove forms the northern face of Birkhouse Moor. At the western end there is a disused quarry. An excellent view can be seen of the former Greenside Mine.

Unadvisable: Do not come over from the Greenside Hydro cache – there is no path and it is very steep.

Advisable: Follow the feint path that leads off the footpath above Glenridding Beck (NY 37425 16877 on the OS 1:25K map)

Once the cache has been found either retrace your steps or take the
north-western ridge down towards the buildings at the site of the
former Greenside mine.
