Hidden in Hawnby Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Cheshireman: A visit to the stated co-ordinates revealed that the cache had disappeared again. I'm no longer happy with the location I originally chose to place this cache so I have decide to archive it.
The bonus cache, GC188QR Hidden in Hawnby Too, is still active and the cache page will be updated so that it can be found

Geocache Description:

The cache is located in the village of Hawnby in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

The village of Hawnby made national headlines on Sunday 19th June 2005, when over one month’s (70mm) of rain fell in 3 hours as torrential thunderstorms hit the eastern area of the North Yorkshire Moors. So great was the volume of rainwater that the ground could not soak it up. The topography of the area channelled the excess water into the Rivers Dove and Rye. The volume of water resulted in the rivers soon ‘bursting their banks’ and becoming raging torrents, washing away 3 road bridges in the village.
It cost £2.0 million to re-build the bridges; the final bridge rebuild was completed in 2007.

Within ½ mile of the cache site is All Saints Church, parts of which date back to 12th Century. The church was flooded and many of the headstones in the churchyard were laid flat.
