Founded in 1641, St. Ignatius is one of the oldest Catholic Parishes in continuous service in the United States. The church and manor house, a residence for priests at Chapel Point for more than 300 years, is located on a 120-foot bluff overlooking the mouth of the Port Tobacco River where it joins the Potomac.
If you get a chance to go inside the church, look at the kneelers behind the pews. They are covered with hand stitched tapestries that tell the history of Southern Maryland.
