As soon as I saw this location, I thought of this story...
In December 1944, soldiers with the 101st Airborne Division were deployed to the city of Bastogne. They arrived just ahead of the Germans and were quickly surrounded and began what came to be known as the Battle of the Bulge. The Americans, completely surrounded, short on ammo, food and winter clothing held the town against numerous attacks. The German commander sent two officers to the American headquarters demanding their surrender. The commander of the 101st replied simply with one word, “Nuts.”
