Once upon a time there was a geocache named "Dem
Bonz". New coord. 33 20.995, 116 40.193. Dem Bonz was a pampered
cache and lived the life of luxury inside of his penthouse
BBQ/smoker. Dem Bonz was taken care of to the last detail. He was
taken in at night where it was warm and safe and he was happy. He
would get an occasional visitor and would enjoy the brief
visit.
One day, Dem Bonz looked from his cozy little BBQ
and longed for the great out-of-doors. Many of warm afternoons he
would daydream of having his own little cubbyhole up in the forest.
"Oh what an adventure that would be" he thought. "Making friends
with foxes and lizards and fighting off mountain lions with silly
string, oh that would be just grand," he sighed.
The very next morning, he packed his 50-caliber
ammunition can with all his belongings and add a few more items
just to boot, like a Sony Watchman color television, a large
multi-color tourmaline crystal, cut opals, bags of wheat pennies
and more.
Dem Bonz waved good-bye to his proud caretakers as
he started to stroll down to rout 79 East just off of the
interstate 15 where he hitched a ride towards his forest of
dreams.
"Where ya be headin to my little friend?" the
kindly stranger asked. "Oh, around 36 some-odd miles aught to do,
to a little town called Warner Springs I believe" Dem Bonz said
with a smile.
Off he went in a pick-up truck towards his
goal.
After an approximate half hour drive, Dem Bonz saw
an airport that offered glider rides. "Let me off here," Dem Bonz
pleaded, "I feel that there is something near by I must see"
Off in a cloud of dust the pick-up drove as he left
Dem Bonz at Lost Valley Road and rout 79 (33 17.19N 116
39.62W).
For seven miles Dem Bonz hiked (he would have drove
if he had a car) up Lost valley Road until he came to a small
campground called Indian Flats.
To the west 0.55 miles Dem Bonz hiked (from the
fire-pit in camping space #6) to find his final resting place
amongst the rocks.
Just a few final words.........
The cache may be only approximately a half mile
from the campground, but don't let this fool you. There are some
well-walked trails up to a certain point, and then they all but
disappear, so you will be hiking through some wild territory. Wear
heavy duty pants and shirts when seeking this cache, otherwise you
may be torn to shreads!
Even though you will not need rock climbing gear,
you will be doing some rock climbing, so I suggest you wear proper
footwear and clothing, be in fair physical shape.
I strongly suggest you take the normal precautions
since you are in a wilderness area. Bring plenty of water, snacks,
first-aid kit and insect repellant.
Happy hunting…
