Geocache Description:

Anglican Church

This Anglican church, designed by Till, was consecrated by the Bishop of Bloemfontein on Sunday 24, 1904.

The first Parish Church, a structure of wood and iron lined with brick and ceiling board (34 feet by 18 feet), was dedicated on Christmas Eve, 1892. When the Anglo-Boer war broke out they soon discovered that the church was too small for the needs of the community. In 1901 a committee was chosen for the building fund, by 1903 the plans were approved and on the second Sunday after easter, 1904, the new church named after Saint George, its patron saint, was consecrated.
