Geocache Description:

This cache is located in Independent Hill Park. To get to the cache there is a steep hill, and some downed trees as an obstacle course to climb over depending on your approach. It is NOT in the wood pile. Beware of the reported sighting of a large cat-like critter living in the wood pile.

The container is a small square camo'd Lock&Lock suitable for geocoins and very small trading items.

Mount Trashmore is a park in Virginia Beach where I used to live. It was the first time I had ever seen a landfill in the middle of a city that had been turned into a park. Being from Northern Maine, there is plenty of empty unpopulated space there to put landfills away from people. This park located right beside the landfill reminded me of that.

Many in the community expressed concerns about the safety of the park as it was being built, worried that the trash would be harmful to visitors to the park. On April 1, 1992, the local radio station WNOR in Virginia Beach warned on the air that a large build-up of methane gas was about to cause a fiery explosion at Mount Trashmore, a landfill/park near Virginia Beach. Residents were warned to evacuate the area, causing the local 911 to be flooded with calls and mass confusion and chaos for the locals and law enforcement. The DJs responsible for the prank were suspended without pay for two weeks. It has made many lists as one of the worst April Fools Day pranks in history.
