This cache is dedicated to a dear friend who recently passed on. John Cole was a local landscape artist and one of his favorite things to paint (and one of his favorite places to be) was the water.
If you have done any of my caches, you have probably figured out that I like to hike in the Chuckanuts during the winter months. You might imagine my surprise when I found a trail last week that I had never been on! On my way up the trail, I came across this beautiful waterfall and immediately knew I wanted to place a cache there for John.
This trail is yet another option to get to Fragrance Lake and can be accessed via Hiline Rd. (Cleater Rd.) Both the parking and trailhead are right at the gate less than a mile up the road from Chuckanut Drive. Please be sure to take care when driving over the Interurban trail as you go up the hill, bicyclist’s may be passing by unaware.
The trail itself is not too bad after the first quarter mile. The distance for this hide is 1.17 miles car to cache. If you continue along the trail, you will reach Fragrance Lake. At 1.42 miles there is a side trail which takes you along a creek 0.1 mile to the lake itself or you can follow the ridge trail which will add about 0.3 miles to the hike to the lake. Did I mention there were views along the trail?
So that the terrain is not torn up I am letting you know that the cache is on the downhill side within 4 feet of the trail.

As always, please be prepared and take care while hiking in the woods. My hides may involve hiking on trails which may be steep, slippery, muddy, next to cliffs, have great views, pass though beautiful mature forests and all the other possibilities that may arise while hiking.
