A "hidden" stretch of the New River, tucked in amongst houses and roads
The New River is a man-made waterway, that was created in 1613, to provide fresh water for London from the River Lee. It still provides that purpose today. It starts near Ware in Hertfordshire and ends in Stoke Newington, 20 miles away. I decided to place a two caches on the Bowes stretch, as it seems an unlikely place for a waterway to be. Despite living less than 1km from it, I had never actually been there myself, until investigating a good place for a cache.
The cache itself is a 1 litre tupperware tub. A few foreign coins have been put in to start the swaps off.
Nearby is Bowes Park Rail station, which runs from Hertford/Welwyn to Moorgate (or Kings Cross off peak). Bounds Green underground station is also under 1 km away.
Parking (no restrictions)is possible at N51 36 388 W 000 06 968
There is no paved footpath, which may make wheelchair access tricky. As far as I am aware there is 24 hour access to the cache.
