Biography:
Jason and his wife Karen have three daughters: Alexandra Rose (1/14/00), Kendall Anne (9/30/01) and Caroline Morgan (6/13/05)...attended Georgia Tech, where he played with former Red Sox Nomar Garciaparra, Jay Payton and Darren Bragg...was a three-time All-American and was named Baseball America's College Player of the Year in 1993...the publication later named him to its "All-Time College All-Star Team"...joined Garciaparra and Kevin Brown as one of three baseball players among Georgia Tech's 50 Greatest Athletes of the 20th Century, and his No. 33 is the only jersey retired in Georgia Tech history...continues to hold most Georgia Tech offensive records...was drafted by the Twins in the first round (21st overall) in 1993, but returned to school...was a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic baseball team in Barcelona...was inducted into the Cape Cod League Hall of Fame in 2002...is a 1990 graduate of Lake Brantley High School in Longwood, Fla., where he was primarily a third baseman...With the Red Sox, Jason has been not only a leader on the field but also in the community...in 2006, hosted the Jason Varitek Celebrity Putt-Putt Tournament, with proceeds benefiting the Boston Children's Hospital and the Celebrities for Charity Foundation...co-hosted the 2006 Pitching in for Kids Charity Golf Tournament and Kickoff party with Tim Wakefield...is an active member of the Boston Action Team, a national youth volunteer initiative administered by the Major League Baseball Players Trust and Volunteers of America that is actively recruiting the next generation of volunteers...attended 2006 Christmas at Fenway...in 2005, led all Red Sox players in appearances...since 2004, his "Tek's 33's" program has brought youngsters from Children's Hospital to Fenway Park throughout the season for a chance to meet Jason, watch batting practice and enjoy a ballgame...Jason and his wife Karen are also frequent visitors to Children's Hospital...he has also teamed up with the Massachusetts Teacher's Association as the Verizon Literacy Champion spokesman to promote summer literacy among children throughout the state.
