Geocache Description:

Magnetised micro

Background
The erf used by the church was one of the first 45 measured out with the founding of Kroonstad in 1854. The first church was inaugurated on 3 January 1861, very primitive and without chairs. Everyone had to bring their one veld-chair and own candle for services at night.
The second church's cornerstone was unveiled on 18 December 1875 but was only finished in 1877. The church council divided the church into 3 areas and you hired a seat in church. This was done to generate enough money to pay the still outstanding fee of about 5500GBP.
The current church's cornerstone was unveiled on 24 December 1912. At that stage this was one of the first churches to use an electrical apparatus to provide wind for the organ in stead of a manual labour.

Apart from the church there are two other significant statues close to the church.
The first is of Sarel Cilliers who lived on a farm, Doornkloof, next to Sterkspruit. Apart from his main occupation he also substituted his income with transporting wood from Natal. He also transported wood for the first church on this erf and was an elder in the church. He died on 4 October 1871 and was buried on his farm, Doornkloof, in the family graveyard. This monument was revealed on 16 December 1950 as part of the Blood river commemorative services.
The second is the 'Burgermonument'. After the new 'Moederkerk' was build, this monument was moved from its original position, to where it is today.
