Free parking is available
along Marine Parade very close to the cache. May well be
busy, particularly during the summer, so an additional waypoint has
been added below for alternative parking in a Pay & Display car
park near by. |

Please beware of muggles
when retrieving as the area is very open. Also ensure cache
is well hidden when replacing. Use the hint below if needed
to reduce suspicion! |

The cache is hidden
alongside some steps so is not suitable for

Nicknamed 'The Bedstead' because of its cast iron construction,
Tankerton Pier opened on the 2nd of August 1894. It was 112ft
(35m) long and 15ft (4.5m) wide.
Leading inland from the pier, a wide road was constructed from
Marine Parade to Bennells Avenue, named Station Road. It was
hoped that this would form the centre of Tankerton's shopping
district and that a railway station would be constructed nearby in
Ham Shades Lane.
However the station never came and construction of shops
elsewhere resulted in road being renamed Pier Avenue and utilised
for housing. It is still wider than the other side roads in
the area today. The pier fell in to disuse and was demolished
1913. Near the bottom of the steps which lead down to the
promenade from Pier Avenue, there is a large piece of concrete on
which a flag pole stands - this may be the only remains of the pier
(but that is only a guess).

This cache is a 35mm film canister, so no room for TBs or
coins. From a log, it appears the pencil which was in this
cache has gone, so please remember to bring your own! To
keep it tidy, please don't leave calling cards.
Please be stealthy and use the hint to reduce the changes of
this cache being muggled. |
