Geocache Description:

First cache in Hornepayne. Should be an easy cache once the calculations are completed.

This is the first of a series of 7 geocaches located in Hornepayne and along Highway 631 from White River to Hornepayne. I had to take my son to catch the Via Rail Train at Hornepayne to return to college. We arrived early (3:45 am) to catch the train arriving at 4:30 am. We discovered that the train was late, so we were able to set up 3 caches in Hornepayne (all set-up in the dark by 4:45 am). We decided to set-up several caches in the area, namely because there were no caches in Hornepayne or on the road to Hornepayne from the south.

From Wikipedia:

Hornepayne, Ontario

Hornepayne is a township of 1209 people (Canada 2006 Census) located in the Algoma District of Ontario, Canada.

Hornepayne was established in 1915 as Fitzback when the Canadian Northern Railway's transcontinental line was built through the area. It was renamed Hornepayne in 1920 for British financier Robert Horne-Payne.

The municipality was incorporated as Wicksteed Township, after the geographic township in which Hornepayne is located. It was renamed Hornepayne in 1986.

Hornepayne serves as a railway divisional point on the main trans-Canada Canadian National Railway line. Via Rail trains also pass through Hornepayne on their trans-Canada journey. The forestry industry is also important to the local economy.

Hornepayne is also home to Haavaldsrud Timber Company.

To the Final Cache Location: NOVEMBER 9, 2017 - NOTE CHANGE IN METHOD TO SOLVE FINAL CACHE LOCATION - SEE BELOW

The posted coordinates will lead you to a statue of 3 black bears near the town playground (just off Highway 631). You will need to note the date on the plaque on the concrete base. You will have to cross a small bridge to get to the plaque.

NOVEMBER 9, 2017 WAS REMOVED OR WENT MISSING A WHILE AGO.
SOLVE DATE, WHICH WAS ON PLAQUE, BY SOLVING THE DATE GIVEN IN ROMAN NUMERALS.

Date will be July 'A''B'th, 'C''D''E''F'

IN ROMAN NUMERALS - DATE IS "July XXIX, MCMLXXVIII"

Once you have determined the numbers corresponding to the letter, solve the following coordinates to lead you to the cache location

N 49° (C)(A).(E)(F-A)(B-D)

W 084° (F/2)(E-C).(B-C-2A)(F+C-D)(F-2A)

The final cache is located a short distance away. There was only enough room in the cache container for the logsheet so you will have to bring your own writing instrument. Stealth will be required at times to retrieve the cache location.

CONGRATULATIONS TO "Caboto" FOR THE F-T-F. ONLY 7 MONTHS AFTER THE CACHE WAS HIDDEN
