Geocache Description:

Cache is 250mm container with blue, black and white markings. Its original contents are: purple highlighter, bouncy ball, mini turbocar, elephant eraser, red finger fighter,T-rex dinosaur, sharpener, logbook, pencil,Roche pen,Centenary of scouting TB and stash note.

Welcome to one of the wettest places in Queensland – Tully Gorge Alcock State Forest. The Tully River is Wet Tropics World Heritage listed and is more commonly known for its white water rafting and tropical rainforest.

This cache is located at west of Tully along Jarra Creek and Cardstone Roads. The rapids along this stretch of the river can be viewed from the Frank Roberts and Flip Wilson Lookouts. At the end of this road is the Cardstone hydro-electric plant. As this is still being used to generate electricity for the region, care with rapidly changing river levels should be taken.

Have a picnic by the Tully River. A shelter shed, gas barbecue, picnic tables and toilets are provided. Find out about butterflies along the short Rainforest Butterfly walk. The best time to see the butterflies is between September and February.

You can camp near the river on grassy sites surrounded by rainforest. Tent sites, toilets, a gas barbecue and cold showers are provided. There are no facilities for rubbish in these grounds, so be sure to take your trash home with you.

Watch the rafters early afternoon from a boardwalk at Cardstone Weir at the end of the road. For your safety, stay on the boardwalk. The rocks can be slippery and water currents here can be dangerous. Rafting should only be attempted under the supervision of skilled professionals.

Have fun and happy geocaching.

FIRST TO FIND was by Kuru and they said: "FTF !! Woo hoo!!
Drove through a huge storm on the way up the valley which looked amazing with the low wisps of cloud draping the mountain sides. Spectacular place the Tully River Valley, could be in the depths of the Amazon up there. Have been to this little camp site heaps of times and never bothered to do the rainforest walk, yet another little discovery thanks to geocaching. Found the cache after a short search and some backtracking thanks to a GPS that kept losing signal. Great cache in a great spot. Thanks for the Cache guys. TNLN."
