Geocache Description:

Historic site in Nevada, Missouri

Small plastic container. Permission has been granted to enter this property to hunt for the cache.

For 100 years this picturesque stone building was the Vernon County jail. The "cell room of medieval malevolence" remains as the last prisoners left it in Dec., 1960. Prisoners were known to request a double sentence if they could be allowed to serve their time in the state penitentiary. If you have time and have found this cache during museum hours go to the 212 West Walnut Museum location (south one block in lower level of Library building)to find out more about the history and heritage of this region and just who the Bushwhackers were.
