Just outside Andersonville, Georgia, home of National POW Museum. Terrain is off road but flat and not overgrown.
The cache is an ammo can nestled in a small circle of saplings. Turn left onto Rebel Road from Oglethorpe. Pics will give you an idea of where to park. A very short hike into the woods over easy terrain will bring you to our treasure trove. The cache site is near Andersonville township and is very close to the Andersonville, Georgia National Historic Site (NHS) - once the Camp Sumter Confederate POW camp, and now the National Prisoner of War Museum. No entrance fees are payable and the Camp and Museum are easily accessible and a real must see! From the Revolutionary War to Operation Iraqi Freedom, American prisoners of war have endured untold hardships, and shown tremendous courage. Andersonville NHS commemorates the sacrifices of these brave Americans through exhibits in the National Prisoner of War Museum; preserves the site of Camp Sumter (Andersonville prison); and manages Andersonville National Cemetery.
