Short walk from Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary along the River Arrow
Studley began as a Saxon village around the River Arrow. In the field across the lane from the church humps can be seen, which were probably the sites of the simple houses in the old village. No one knows why the village moved to its present location. The present Norman stone church was founded around 1105. A late Anglo-Saxon axehead was found in the churchyard in the 1950’s.
We also got married here.
This cache is short walk along the River Arrow from the church (plenty of parking right at the end of the lane) or it can be made a bit longer approaching from Spernall Ash.
Most of the trees along the river are knarled and split - can only think this is from the roots being in water all the time.
