Geocache Description:

The Little Lost River is about 60 miles long. It flows southeast between the Lost River Range to the west and Lemhi Range to the east. It enters the Snake River Plain north of the sinks and flows into them at locations called Little Lost River Sinks.

Streams that flow here are indirect tributaries to the Snake River. The aptly names Lost River flows to an area north of here known as “the sinks” where it soaks into the ground, becoming part of an aquifer the volume of Lake Erie,. The aquafier flows through pores and fractures in the rocks hundreds of feet beneath the surface.

The sinks and the lower courses of both rivers are within the land of the Idaho National Laboratory, northeast of Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve.
