This cache, on Frying Pan Point, is one of two caches hidden
either side of idyllic Stewarts Bay, adjacent to my family's
favourite camp site on Garden Point. GPS accuracy was pretty
ordinary at time of placement for both caches, but as with most of
my hides the container is among an obvious pile of rocks (hehe).
The spoiler photo shows the rocks where the cache is hidden - if
you're able to find the cache relatively easily without the photo
please let me know via your log.
From the Stewarts Bay car park, cross the footbridge and follow
your nose. Approximately 25 min return. There is also the option of
approaching from the Port Arthur Historic Site, but that would
incur an entrance fee!
Alternatively, you might be interested in the possibilities of a
water-based approach. On a calm day, we comfortably paddled around
the bay in a 2-person canoe, passing within 20m of each of the
caches, in about 25 minutes. There’s a sandy beach just
before the neck of the Northern side of Frying Pan Point, but
finding a safe place to get ashore at Garden Point might prove a
bit more challenging.
The cache is a black 400ml container and has a few swaps.
NOTE: Lately I’ve been feeling strongly that “the
journey is more important than the find” (probably because I
haven’t been getting enough finds myself), so could you
please avoid the temptation to post a comment such as
“I’d love to come back here when I’ve got more
time.” You have been warned!
