The controversy centres about the proposed marina to be built here among the mangroves on the seaward side of this Reserve.
On one side, the boating community has been pushing for it, only to have it rebuffed in the final consent stages by its opponents taking the matter to court, citing Resource Management issues. The opponents won, holding the project in limbo.
The opposition objects to the marina on the grounds that the development may jeopardize the World class and famous left hand surf break at the bar which is situated at the harbour entrance.
This scenario is now been played out at parliamentary level, we shall all await the verdict!
