A small cache on the Leeds Country Way, between Ouchthorpe Lane and
Newton Hill. There is no direct Parking to this cache, I would
advise against Parking on both Ouchthorpe Lane (blind bends/ fast
cars) and the new housing development. It is not accessible to
wheelchair 'cachers I’m afraid, “off road” style pushchairs should
be OK. Beware dog walking Muggles.
At the highest point in the area. From here you can look down on
Newton Hill, Outwood and Wakefield City. Today the Cache has
agricultural land surrounding its’ north and west, Fieldhead
Hospital to the East and a new housing development to the south
(please don't park here).
It wasn’t always so.
As early as 1317 mining took place in and around Outwood. Between
1853 & 1855 Robert Hudson & Co extended mining between
Ouchthorpe lane and Newton Hill forming the Newton Lane End
Colliery.
The ‘Cache itself is not technically demanding. It is a 2.2pint
clip-lock box (camouflaged), containing initially:
- Perry whistle X 2
- Green Cyalume (light stick) X 2
- Countryside Code information cards X slack handful
- George Cross trolley token
- Parachuting Man
- brush
- Log book/ pens
- Camera (take a photo/ leave in ‘cache)
Enjoy the area.
