This repalces an earlier cache that was muggled. A hour and half circular walk around the lake will take in Mr. Kipling cache on the other side of the lake.
A smallish tupperware box with various bits to kick off with.
Rudyard Kipling was born in Bombay, India in 1865 but has a strong connection with the Potteries area of Stoke on Trent. In 1863 his father, John, went to work in Burslem for Pinder Bourne, a potter. Whilst there he designed the facade of the Wedgwood Memorial institute. He courted his wife Alice on the banks of Rudyard Lake, an idyllic spot between the Potteries and Leek. Their son was named after this lake. If he had grown up there his famous poem may have sounded like this …
IF
If thay cost keep thee ‘ead when all about yer
Are losing theirs and blamin’ eet on you,
If thay cost trust theesen when all men dowt yer
But make allowance fer their dowtin’ too,
If thay cost wait an’ not be tired be waitin’,
Or bein’ lied abite, dunner deal in lies,
Or bein’ ‘ated, dunner give way ter ‘ating,
An’ yet dunner look too good, nor talk too wise:
If thay cost dream—an’dunner make dreams yer master,
If thay cost think—an’ dunner make thoughts yer aim;
If thay cost meet with Triumph an’ Disaster
An’ treat them two impostors just the same;
If thay cost bear t’ ‘ear the truth ye’ve spoken
Twisted be knaves t’ make a trap fer fools,
Or watch the things yer gave yer life to, brock,
An’ stoop an’ build 'em up with worn-ite tools:
If thay cost make un ‘eap of all yer winnin’s
An’ risk eet ow on one turn of pitch-n’-toss,
An’ lose, an’ start agen at yer beginninz
An’ never breath a word abite thee loss;
If thay cost force thee ‘art an’ nerve an’ sinyew
T’ serve thee turn long after theeve gone,
An’ so ‘old on when thez nothing in yer
’Cept the Will which sez t’ them: "Old on!"
If thay cost talk with crowds an’ keep thee virtue,
Or walk with kings and dunner lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor luvvin’ frienz can ‘urt thee
If ow men count with yer, but none too much,
If thay cost fill the unforgivin’ mineet
With sixty seconds' woth er distance run,
Tharn’s the Earth and everythin’ that's ineet,
And—wots more-- theel be a Mon, our youth!
Parody:IF by Rudyard Kipling
